MEANWHILE IN THE MARKET
Meanwhile in the Market is a series of photographic portraits celebrating the current traders of Eastgate Indoor Market, located within the Eastgate Shopping Centre. Created in collaboration with GASP! and the traders themselves, the project aims to raise the market's profile and support its community during the Greyfriars development and forthcoming relocation.
Eastgate Market first opened in 1868 before moving to its current purpose-built location in 1968 as part of a major city redevelopment. The market is set to relocate again in 2027.
The project grew from conversations with market supporter and advocate Viva O'Flynn, who sought a creative way to celebrate the traders and raise awareness of the market during a period of significant change.
